Sport and sustainability are inextricably linked and the relationship between the two is a complex one.  

On this course you will learn from experienced industry leaders about how sport can make itself a more sustainable proposition, the role it can play to highlight the sustainability agenda and how it can be a catalyst for innovation and behavioural change that can help address current sustainability issues.

This course is for anyone involved in the broad ecosystem of sport.  You will learn practical tools and strategies that can be applied across the industry.  Sustainability is one of the most pressing topics facing the industry today so join us to build your knowledge and skills on this critical subject.

Claire Poole

Founder and CEO of Sport Positive

Claire is the CEO and Founder of Sport Positive, supporting the global sports industry to increase action and ambition on climate change through direct support, community creation, the annual Sport Positive Summit, Sport Positive Leagues and The Climate of Sport podcast. A consultant to UNFCCC from the inception of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, she still collaborates closely with the Secretariat team as the Framework evolves and progresses. Sport Positive Summit is the leading global meeting place for sports effecting positive environmental impacts, in collaboration with UNFCCC Global Climate Action and the International Olympic Committee. Sport Positive Leagues rank and highlight environmental sustainability efforts of top flight sports organisations, to drive industry progress. Her views and work have been covered by BBC Sport, Sky Sports News, BT Sport, Euronews, The Independent, Reuters, The Times, The New York Times, The Japan Times, Forbes, The Athletic, Rouleur, Euractiv, Ecolospot and more. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and spoke at 8 climate change and sport events at COP26 in Glasgow, including within the COP Blue Zone Action Hub, New York Times Climate Hub and The Times Earth Hub. Additionally Claire is the Principal of ClearBright Consulting; Trustee of UK-based food waste and education charity, UKHarvest; Advisory Board Member for Ecoathletes and The Sport Ecology Group; Advisory Committee Member for The Council for Responsible Sport's Standard for Organisations and IWBI's WELL Advisory on Sports and Entertainment Venues. She is also part of the albert Sports Consortium, for sports broadcasters to tackle their environmental footprint.

Jamie Reigle

CEO Formula E, Board Member Extreme E

Jamie Reigle enjoyed an early career in finance and private equity at J.P. Morgan and The Carlyle Group, after which he attended Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and obtained a master's degree in Business Administration. In 2007, Reigle joined English football club Manchester United as a senior executive, spending the next decade in roles of increasing responsibility - overseeing global commercial activity, launching the club’s Asia Pacific operations in Hong Kong, leading the company’s initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange and serving as a member of the board of directors. The Canadian later made the move back to North America in 2017 to become Executive Vice President, Business Operations at the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL, driving corporate and commercial operations - including the ticketing, hospitality, partnerships, media, marketing, retail, strategy and finance functions. Reigle joins Formula E to lead a young and accomplished executive line-up at the company’s headquarters in London. Working in close collaboration with Alejandro Agag as Chairman, together they will scale the business to meet the demands and fulfil the potential of the fastest-growing series in motorsport

Alexandra Rickham

Head of Sustainability at World Sailing

Alexandra recently joined World Sailing from specialist sports sustainability consultancy Earth to Ocean, where she set up SailGP’s sustainability programme and later transitioned into being their Diversity & Impact Manager. Alexandra has also advised a host of other sporting property clients over the course of her time at Earth to Ocean. She is well known in the global sustainability community as a public speaker, appearing regularly on The Sport Ecology Group’s Climate Champions and GreenSports podcasts, as panelist for COPtimism and Sport Positive Summit, working with global sports stakeholders to accelerate climate action. She also serves as Advisory Board Member and Ambassador for EcoAthletes, which brings together athletes, academics, climate scientists, ecopreneurs, green business leaders and journalists. During her sailing career with Niki Birrell, an Olympic class sailor with cerebral palsy, Rickham won two Paralympic Bronze medals, five consecutive World Titles and three World Cups in the SKUD18.

Patrick Haslett

Managing Partner of Impact 3Zero

With over a decade's experience on the commercial side of sport, Patrick helps sports organisations to understand the challenge of 'sustainability'. By putting social, economic and environmental activity at the heart of organisational strategy, sport can play a leading role in tackling the defining challenges of our time. Not only is it the right thing to do, but the commercial opportunity overwhelmingly supports this transition.

Dr Cristiana Pace

Founder and CEO of Enovation Consulting, Management Board of British Association of Sustainability in Sport

Cristiana’s career as a motorsport engineer, sustainability expert and innovator spans 20 years. Having worked trackside and in the technical departments of a range of motorsport stakeholders, she obtained a PhD in Sustainability and Strategic Management from Coventry University in 2015. In 2018 she founded Enovation Consulting Limited, a purpose driven strategy and sustainability firm focusing on building sustainability strategies for the motorsport and sport industry. She is a member of the FIA Environmental and Sustainability Commission, of the FIA carbon offsetting working group, member and advisor to the Motorsport UK Sustainability Committee, Chair of the Sustainability Working Group of eSC, the newly created electric scooter championship, and a board member of BASIS, the British Association for Sustainable Sport. Cristiana is also a well-known speaker in technology transfer, motorsport, e-mobility, STEM and diversity. Cristiana holds an Engineering degree from Bologna University, an MSc in Motorsport Engineering and Management from Cranfield University, and a PhD from Coventry University. In 2021 she was awarded as one of the Top 50 Engineering Heroes by the Women in Engineering Society and The Guardian

Etienne Stott

London 2012 Olympic Gold Medallist, Climate Activist

Etienne Stott won the Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympics in the sport of canoe slalom, with his crew-mate Tim Baillie. Their historic victory at a home Olympics helped Team GB to an unprecedented 3rd in the medal table and ignited the British public's enthusiasm. Etienne first tried canoeing aged ten with his local Scout group. It has been a passion ever since, driving a career spanning 20 years, encompassing the challenges of serious injury, intense rivalry and grave disappointment. Across this time he gained deep insight into high performance and the process of excellence. After Tim's retirement in 2013, Etienne undertook an intense push for Rio 2016 with a new crew-mate, Mark Proctor. Sadly their campaign ended unsuccessfully and Etienne made the decision to retire, although he remains an active paddler. In 2019, Etienne finished an Open University degree in psychology to add to the practical knowledge gained through his athletic career. He believes in the potential of all human beings and is keen to contribute his knowledge for the good of society. Etienne is a passionate, warm and authentic communicator, presenter, workshop facilitator and coach. He is now an outspoken campaigner for immediate action to tackle the climate and ecological emergency. Etienne is a proud and visible member of Extinction Rebellion and was part of the now-famous ‘uprising’ in spring 2019 which elevated this issue to the prominence it now has today. He continues to be involved in peaceful civil disobedience actions, having been arrested seven times to date, and has suggested that he will do so again if necessary. Etienne is also involved with 'Champions for Earth', a campaign group which aims to harness the power of sport and sporting values in the struggle to address the environmental emergency.

Melissa Wilson

Co-Founder, Athletes for the World, former International rower

Melissa Wilson is an A-finalist in three World Rowing Championships, a World Under-23 medallist and Boat Race winner, with a passion for developing athlete-led environmental advocacy. Having been selected for GB Rowing's Olympic Squad in 2020, in the summer of 2020 she co-authored a letter with Champions for Earth which was signed by over 320 GB Olympians and Paralympians, calling on the UK government to prioritise a Green Recovery to the pandemic. Since then, Melissa has worked with the National Olympic Committees, International Federations, National Governing Bodies and other sports organisations to increase athlete engagement around sustainability. In September 2021 Melissa founded Athletes of the World with double Olympic Champion Hannah Mills OBE, to harness and expand the power of athletes as sustainability advocates. Their ‘Dear Leaders of the World’ video, written to global leaders to encourage ambitious policies at COP26, included Olympic flag-bearers from 35 countries and athletes like Andy Murray, Tom Daley and Eliud Kipchoge. It was supported by the IOC and UN Environment Programme, and was viewed well over a million times.

Tim Hunt

Former CMO at Williams Racing

Tim was Sponsorship Director at a London based PR agency, working with sponsors of major events, including The Ryder Cup, before moving to work on The Stella Artois Championships at The Queen’s Club in London - one of the iconic events on The ATP World Tour - attaining the position of Commercial & Event Director. In 2008, Tim began working at The European Tour, becoming Head of Marketing responsible for growing consumer awareness and engagement for Tour events across the world and The Ryder Cup – one of the biggest events in world sport. Having spent 10 years at The European Tour, Tim became CEO of Premier Team Promotions, an events agency that also managed the Commercial operations of Saracens Rugby Club. During his time there, Tim was responsible for the integration of Saracens Women into the club as a whole and the investment and renaming of Saracens Mavericks, the Netball Superleague franchise. In his most recent role at Williams Racing, as Chief Marketing Officer, Tim was responsible for all commercial and marketing operations as well as the authoring and launch of Williams’ ESG strategy which included a commitment for the 800 strong organisation to become Climate Positive by 2030.

Ellis Spiezia

Driver at Elysium Racing, EcoAthletes Champion

Ellis is a 16-year-old American electric racing driver pacing an unconventional path in the world of racing. He started his racing career in indoor karting and sim racing. After two seasons in competitive electric karting in Europe, this year (2022) Ellis will participate in the world’s first electric junior formula series, ERA Championship. Ellis is an ambassador for a new generation that will redefine education, the economy, environmentalism and equity. Ellis said " I believe that the rewards of being the first far outweigh the risks. I believe electric is the future, for performance and the planet."

Melina Corvaglia-Charrey

Sustainable Content Marketing Strategist, Enovation Consulting Ltd.

Melina is a Research Assistant at UCL School of Management and Sustainable Content Marketing Strategist at Enovation Consulting Ltd. She is a senior marketing leader with 15+ years experience developing strategic, creative, results driven marketing campaigns and brand partnerships.

Sam Baring

Director, Sam Baring Partnerships

Sam has worked for both rights holders (The Rugby Players' Association, Ascot Racecourse) and agency-side (AOK Events) before setting up his own sponsorship consultancy in 2020. Sam's current work has a particular focus on sustainability partnerships, working with brands to map out how they can amplify their sustainability credentials through a partnership programme and working with rights holders to create an official sustainability partnership programme to go to market with.

Neil Beecroft

Head of Sustainability, Omega European Masters, Founder the SHIFT Agency

Neil Beecroft was responsible for sustainable development at UEFA EURO 2016 football tournament in France. In 2020, he was Head of Sustainability for the Lausanne Winter Youth Olympic Games. As B Corp Leader, Neil encourages the way in which business innovation and sustainability can positively influence the organisational model of sports and the industry. He is also Head of the Omega European Masters and is the CoFounder of the StartUp PuraWorka and the NGO Sport and Sustainability International (SandSI). Recently, Neil achieved a certificate in disruptive innovation at IMD Business School and is ready to blend this field with sustainability.

Matthew Campelli

Founder of the Sustainability in Sport Report

Matthew is a strategist, communicator and journalist helping organisations craft their story around sustainability and corporate sustainability. He is a journalist at Touchline, an integrated brand and communications agency with an international footprint. Matthew is the founder and editor of The Sustainability Report – an independent publication that showcases economic, social and environmental insight and leadership for the sports sector. Since founding the publication, he's spent a large amount of time interacting and sharing ideas with some of the most forward-thinking and innovative minds at the intersection of sustainability and sport.
